Tonight is the night we finally get to see Kevin Durant make his season debut after fracturing his right foot 6 and a half weeks ago. He will be joining his counterpart Russell Westbrook, who returned last Wednesday, and the Thunder have won two straight since Westbrook’s return. When the two are playing together, the Thunder are one of the best teams in the NBA, but right now they currently sit at 5-12, and find themselves in 12th place in the Western Conference with 65 games left in the season. Last year, the Mavs were the 8th seed with a 49-33 record, so to be safe let’s say the Thunder need to get to 48 wins to make the playoffs. That means they need to go 43-22 the rest of the way, which is winning approximately 66% of their games. Last year their winning percentage was 72% so definitely within doable, but they have a long road ahead of them and not much time to get things rolling in the right direction. I’m fully confident that they will be able to do just that, and if they do wiggle their way into the playoffs, then I would not want to be the team that draws them in the first round. Granted, they will be without home court advantage that they definitely will miss, but seeing as Durant had only missed 14 games total in his seven year career before this 17 game hiatus, I would imagine that he will be coming back with a bit of a chip on his shoulder and ready to dominate like he is fully capable of. The reigning MVP had this to say about returning, “it’s just made me more anxious. Pissed me off a little bit more”. Think it’s safe to say that Durant is ready to fuck shit up again and I for one couldn’t be happier to watch it.
