Terrace Martin is a rapper and producer from Los Angeles. With a jazz drummer for a father and a singer for a mother, Martin’s birthright was music. He started playing the piano at the age of 6, then later got into the saxophone, and eventually found himself as first chair of the All-State jazz band by the time he was in high school. Martin gained much attention, even as a younging, appearing on Jay Leno’s talk show, where he was presented with a scholarship and was given his first professional horn. Even world-renowned jazz musician, Billy Higgins, took notice by making him a member of his World Stage All-Stars. Martin has always said that he started producing hip hop because it was the music of his time, but he has never lost his love for jazz. Although being pretty unknown for the most part, he has worked with many artists over the years, including Snoop, Warren G, Talib, Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt, Murs, and more, as well as collaborated with producers like Hi-Tek and Pete Rock. Aside from being in the business for a while now, Martin just released his 2nd album earlier this month, 3ChordFold. Here is one of my favorite tracks off of it, “Triangle Ship”, which feature Kendrick on the hook. Take some time to appreciate the quality of production in these songs people, this is a true musician.
