This week brings us one of the better kept secrets in hip hop. Skyzoo first burst onto the scene back in 2006 when he teamed up with legendary producer 9th Wonder to make his debut EP, Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, appropriately named for the 3 days it took for them to complete the entire project from start to finish. And that is no easy task. Since then he has released a plethora of music, from mixtapes to EP’s to CD’s, releasing 17 projects in total. Today he is signed to Duck Down Records, and has toured with the likes of Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Pharoahe Monch, Black Moon, Sean Price, & Smif-n-Wessun. Not too shabby of a collection of MC’s. This first song, “The Definitive Prayer”, was the first song I heard by him that really turned me onto him. You might recognize the beat from Lil Wayne’s “Dr. Carter”, but the original sample is David Axelrod’s “Holy Thursday”. I fucking love the beat, the way he utilizes voice inflection throughout the track is incredible. Just 4:27 of straight bars, no hook. Enjoy.
